Automatic Packet Reporting System (A.P.R.S)

APRS is one of the many ways that Ham operators can digitally communicate over the radio. Similar to Traditional Packet Radio, APRS uses the same equipment to interface the PC with the radio... a TNC, a PC, and the radio. Unlike Packet radio, APRS does not need to connect to the other TNC. Instead, the transmissions are sent in a Unproto frame to the receiving station. The receiving station then sends a Unproto frame back. This method of data transfer does not need to send frames verifying the correctness of the content. Either you get it or not. In addition to messageing, APRS also automatically brodcasts your position if you so choose. This allows the use of a GPS to be implemented. These brodcasts allow other ham operators to view your location in reference to their locations. This digital network is used all over the world. To see some hams in the Fairbanks Area, please visit this link----- it will take you to Findu.com. This site can explane more on how this system is used. Enjoy and 73!
